Mexico: New division at Consumer Protection agency to take on Telecomm complaints
Mexico’s PROFECO consumer agency has announced the launch of a new Telecommunications Prosecutor office, which will be dedicated to answering the complaints and grievances of all Cable TV, fixed and mobile telephony and internet service consumers, which total nearly 150 million users.
“The office will operate across the PROFECO, but will concentrate on this sector, which is different from the way we usually do things, where we have a Complaints and Services area, alongside a verification and a Judicial office” said PROFECO’s head, Lorena Martínez Rodríguez. During the announcement, Ms. Martínez Rodríguez introduced Mr. Carlos de Jesús Ponce-Beltrán, who will take on the new office.
The new area will have all three areas under one head, which will provide the agency with greater efficiency “which we don’t have in other areas”. Finally, Ms. Martínez Rodriguez emphasised their goal in creating a leaner, less bureaucratic agency, which will retain the normative and executive abilities needed to follow through with consumer needs.
