Mexico: Permits issued to begin gasoline imports

Mexico’s Energy Secretariat (SENER) announced last week it has issued 47 licenses to private companies allowing them to begin importing up to 54,279 million litres of gasoline to be sold throughout the country. The move is a key step in creating a new competitive market in hydrocarbons, one of the main goals in Mexico’s recent energy reform.

    SENER also announced it had issued 67 similar permits for importing diesel fuel. The licenses issued have a maximum validity of one year, during which the companies will be permitted to bring fuel into the country.
