Mexico: Salt industry probed by competition authority

Mexican competition regulator COFECE has announced it will launch an investigation into the salt mining, distribution and sales industry, over concerns of possibly anticompetitive practices taking place.

The announcement and accompanying publication in the Official Gazette does not specify any individual economic agents being investgated, nor does it specify the alleged violations.

“The announcement refers only to the beginning of an investigative, administrative procedure. No definitive act has been identified which may constitute a violation of any existing law… Nor has it been determined who or which subjects, where appropriate, are to be identified as defendants as probable culprits of any infraction”.
