Mexico: Telecom regulator looks into asymmetric regulation for Telcel

In line with the nation’s vow to inspect its telecommunications market, Mexico’s Federal Telecommunications Commission has announced it will reach a decision in early 2013 as to whether the authority will apply asymmetric regulation to Telcel in efforts to curb its market dominance. President of the Federal Telecommunications Commission Mony de Swaan has said the regulator is examining the case of mobile termination rates within the sector. De Swaan noted that the idea was in its early stages as of late. Telcel has about 70 percent of the market share.
