Netherlands: Onion cartel lands fine for seven

The Netherlands Competition Authority has issued a press release announcing fines issued to seven entities in the onion sector for price-fixing. The amount fined, however, was not released. According to the NMa, a cartel existed between sellers of onion sets and the authority found the entities to have attempted to fix prices by destroying crops in 2009 in an effort to reduce supply. The NMa also found the parties colluded to exchange market-sensitive information. The cartel was discovered through anonymous tips offered to the authority.
