New Caledonia: France facilitates establishment of competition regulator

The French Senate is poised to receive amendments intended to facilitate the establishment of a competition watchdog in its New Caledonia collectivity, say reports. The Senate’s law commission announced its clearance of an amendment legalizing New Caledonia to set up its own regulators, though the legislation is intended for competition policy in the region. Reports site an increasing cost of living in New Caledonia as a major influence of the agenda.
