New Zealand: Expedia takeover hits turbulence

Expedia’s planned acquisition of Australian travel booking firm Wotif hit turbulence this week after New Zealand authorities declined to clear the deal.

    According to reports, US-based Expedia was slated to take control of Wotif on Tuesday. But the transaction was delayed after the New Zealand Competition Commission announced that it had yet to rule on the transaction and that it would do so before October 21.

    The companies first announced plans to merge for $615 million earlier this summer. The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission offered clearance for the transaction last week.
