New Zealand: Flooring co scrutinized for price-fixing texts

Texts sent by a New Zealand flooring company are now placing the conglomerate under fire by the nation’s Competition Commission. According to reports, the regulator has sent the company Ansell Flooring Limited a formal warning after discovering the company attempting to initiate a price-fixing scheme via text in its sanding and polishing services. The company allegedly exchanged text messages in December 2012 and January 2013 in efforts to set pricing arrangements with a rival; an investigation by authorities discovered the text exchanges, which looked to set minimum prices for flooring services. A competing business sent initial complaints of the situation to the Commission.
