New Zealand: New bill against hard core cartels reviewed by Parliament

New Zealand Parliament’s Commerce Select Committee has returned with its report on a proposed bill intended to fight hard core cartels yet allow for “collaborative arrangements” to promote international exports. The report on the bill, entitled The Commerce (Cartels and Other Matters) Amendment Bill), was welcomed by Commerce Minister Craig Foss who said in a statement that the bill will fight price-fixing and bid-rigging while simultaneously encouraging competition. Further, Foss noted that the anticompetitive behavior “will not be tolerated” and those found to have breached antitrust law will be treated like “white collar criminals.”
