Pakistan: New legislation to overhaul telco market

Pakistan is gearing up for the launch of new legislation aimed at overhauling the nation’s telecommunications sector, and the plans will now reportedly include a new initiative by both the Pakistan Telecommunications Authority and the Competition Commission of Pakistan.

    The PTA and CCP are set to prepare a joint Memorandum of Understanding that will outline their roles within the new telco laws; the MoU will reportedly clarify how the regulators’ roles will affect the industry, and will include a competition framework spearheaded by both authorities.

    That framework will specify the steps for a market review and how to respond to any anticompetitive behavior found or suspected by the regulators.
