Parliament passes bill creating Bangladesh Competition Commission

The Bangladesh Parliament has passed a bill establishing the Bangladesh Competition Commission (BCC). The BCC, comprised of a chair and four members, will be headquarted in Dhaka. It will investigate anticompetitive practices on its own or upon submitted complaints. The bill provides for sanctions for noncompliance with BCC orders: a maximum of a one-year prison sentence, or a fine of Tk 1 lakh per day for each day of noncompliance.
