Representative Alfredo Abelardo announced this week calls for the House of Representatives to have the Department of Energy establish a regulator for the oil industry in the Visayas Region following complaints of major price disparities between the Visayas islands and other regions of the Philippines. Reports say the resolution is seeking what reports call a “multi-sectoral independent oil price watchdog” to probe fuel prices in various provinces in the Visayas islands. Further, Abelardo is seeking a review of oil pricing patterns and to issue sanctions on industry players if necessary.
