Philippines: Watchdog partners with the Department of Agriculture

The Philippine Competition Commission (PCC) on Tuesday, October 1, announced said it partnered with the Department of Agriculture to help address “unscrupulous” practices in the agriculture sector which that could affect prices and output.

    The antitrust body represented by its chairman Arsenio Balisacan and Agriculture Secretary William Dar signed a memorandum of agreement (MOA) on Tuesday, the PCC said in a statement. 

    “This has been a much-anticipated partnership that puts the PCC and the DA at the forefront of inclusive development and consumer welfare promotion. Cognizant of the DA’s role in developing our agriculture sector and the sector’s importance in the economy, the PCC is well-suited to assist and support the DA by looking into market conduct that ultimately affect prices and output,” Balisacan said.
