Poland: Coal market chosen as next antitrust target

Poland’s competition authority UOKiK announced Tuesday it has launched an in depth investigation into the nation’s coal industry.

According to reports, the regulator will look at how the product is sold and distributed throughout the country following the rise of less expensive imports impacting competition in the market. In a statement, the UOKiK said it will “examine the state of competition, concentration and market behavior of businesses involved in the sale and distribution of hard coal.”

The regulator noted that its probe would focus on sales methods and pricing policies.

According to reports, the investigation will be concluded in 30 working days, but could extend an additional 30 days should the probe prove to be complex.
