Portugal/Chile: Electric company looking for South America entrance

 |  January 19, 2016

Portuguese energy firm Redes Energétics Nacionais (REN) have announced their intentions to dive into Chile’s energy market, with short-term views to making the company’s first foray outside Europe.

Hugo Domingos, REN’s Director of Business Development, has highlighted the company’s experience, being Portugal’s sole electricity operator, with over 8,600 km in power lines and over 1,400 km in pipelines.

“We have looked at several countries rationally. As well as a certain cultural siilarity, Chile has the regulatory stability that is essential in the electric sector. Its probable that, in the short term, we will be moving into Chile’s electric market” said Mr. Domingos.
