Russia: Gazprom pushes ahead with pipeline to Germany

 |  November 24, 2016

Russia’s state energy giant PAO Gazprom is pushing forward with building controversial natural-gas pipelines to Germany, calling for bids on the $11 billion project under the Baltic Sea, people familiar with the matter said.

The German government doesn’t intend to obstruct construction of Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline, since this is a matter of the companies participating in the project.

This is what Ursula Borak, thedirector for European and international energy policy at Germany’s Ministry of Economics and Energy told Sputnik today at ENES 2016 international forum.

According to her, Nord Stream 2 belongs to the companies and it’s up to them to decide, whether to abandon it or not. Ursula Borak stressed that the German government was unaware about what kind of decision the companies will take.

As a reference, Nord Stream 2 project provides for construction of two strings of gas pipelines with a total capacity of 55 billion cubic meters.
