Russian antitrust authorities are likely to penalize Samsung Electronics’ Russian subsidiary for its ad disparaging the iPhone. Interfax, a Russian non-governmental news agency, reported on April 18 that Russian antitrust authorities ruled that Samsung Electronics Rus and mobile phone retailer EBPOCETb had violated advertising laws.
In May last year, EBPOCETb release an ad for the Samsung S6 Edge, in which a famous Russian actress says, “This is different from some fruity company’s has-beens. This is awesome.”
Controversy erupted over the anti-Apple ad and Russia’s antitrust agency launched an investigation into it.
Russia’s antitrust agency is reportedly considering taking disciplinary action against Samsung Electronics Rus for violating advertising laws.
