Scotland: C.C. to look into transport company’s plans to cut bus routes

The Competition Commission has begun an investigation into First Bus, a service company looking to cut service in Glasgow. The Commission’s investigation will focus on whether First Bus’s plans are in-line with its proposals first set forth when the company acquired ScotRail, a deal finalized on terms that First Bus would not use its attained status as a monopoly to negatively affect passengers. According to a Commission statement, the antitrust authority approved of First Bus’s proposals in 2004 after an investigation into the merger with ScotRail.
