South America: Airline alliance takes off with Colombia’s addition

 |  October 1, 2013

The first of the merged LAN, TAM airlines has joined the oneworld airline alliance since the airlines merged into LATAM, say reports.

LAN Colombia has formally joined the alliance since LATAM Airlines Group, the parent of LAN and TAM airlines, announced last March that its airlines would join the oneworld alliance over the Star Alliance.

LAN and TAM merged in 2011; under conditions of the deal, Chilean antitrust regulators said the merged companies had to choose just one alliance.

Reports say Brazil’s TAM Airlines will be next to join oneworld next March.
