South Korea: Electronics firm strikes out in patent suit

 |  January 23, 2014

UK-based electronics materials manufacturer AZ Electronic Materials will reportedly fight a recent decision made by the Korean Supreme Court that would invalidate AZ’s patent infringement claims.

AZ accused UP Chemical of infringing upon one of its specialty chemical patents and filed a law suit in 2012. UP, which reportedly challenged the validity of the patent, scored a victory when the court reached the Supreme Court.

The Court’s ruling that invalidates AZ’s patent means the company cannot enforce infringement claims against UP – or any other company – regarding the patent, unless the ruling is reversed. AZ says it will appeal the Court’s decision.
