South Korea: Search portal leader Naver under FTC watch

South Korea’s Fair Trade Commission has launched an investigation into NHN Corporation, which runs the dominant search portal Naver, to assess the company’s business practices concerning suspected anticompetitive behavior. According to media outlets, the FTC initiated searches of NHN offices with the official launch of the probe on Monday; the regulator declined to release further information. NHN’s Naver holds about a 70 percent hold of the portal market, and some reports predict the investigation to center around whether the company has abused its dominant position against rivals and advertisers. NHN stated that it is cooperating fully with regulators and the investigation process.
