Spain: CNMC fines CRTVE over self-promotion excess

 |  December 13, 2016

Spanish competition regulator CNMC has announced a €203,508 fine to be levied on leading television network Corporación de Radio Televisión Española (CRTVE), for exceeding the allotted maximum time to be used for self-promotion.

The country’s General Audiovisual Communications Law states that “for television audiovisual communications, the time dedicated to adverts promoting one’s own programs and products may not exceed five minutes per hour, and the content must be subject to the obligations and prohibitions established for commercial publicity in general.”

The CRTVE will have a period of two months to present any appeals to the CNMC’s decision before the National Assembly.
