Spain’s CNMC has released it’s Memoir of 2014, corresponding to the first full year of the Agency as an economy-wide sector regulator and competition authority. The document relates every action taken by the CNMC, including statistics and yearly accounts starting from December 2014.
The new ‘Super-Regulator’, whose model of centralized sector regulation and competition has been closely watched by competition agencies worldwide, was able to dismantle 4 cartels and issued fines against 52 companies over Competition violations. In total, these fines amounted to over 56 million euros, including notable cases such as Telefónica (25.7 million), SGAE (3 million) and Endesa Distribución (1.2 million), in cases involving abuse of market dominance and competition violations.
The CNMC’s memoir also details the agency’s advocacy work through its normative reports and sector studies. Noted among these are a recent technical inspection of motor vehicles and an in-depth report of Spain’s airport market, including recommendations for improving competition within it. More details about the CNMC’s actions can be found in the report, available below.
