Spain: Despite concerns, no concessions expected for Cemex-Holcim tie-up

Despite earlier reports that suggested the European Commission voiced concerns over cement giant Cemex’s plans to acquire Holcim’s Spanish operations, another source said Monday that regulators will approve of the merger without concessions.

    Reports say Mexico’s Cemex will gain clearance by EU authorities to acquire Switzerland-based Holcim’s operations in Spain. The acquisition concerned the Commission, an earlier source reported, and authorities were looking to pressure Cemex to offer concessions to gain approval of the deal.
