Spain: Minister’s niece returns to CNMC

 |  November 15, 2016

Beatriz de Guindos, former Director of competition regulator CNMC, returned last week to the agency as an official advisor to president José María Marin.

De Guindos, niece of Economy Minister Luis de Guindos, left her position in September 2013 just one day after her designation due to the controversy caused by her family ties. De Guindos built her career largely within CNMC’s predecessor, the CNC, holding several directive positions since 2003.

Among her career highlights is an investigation opened against the bosses of Spain’s Electrical Association UNESA over a scheme to prevent a switch in energy providers, and a high-profile investigation into the country’s leading oil companies over indirect price-fixing of the gasoline market.
