Spain: Telco watchdog reports collapsing pay-TV market

 |  September 30, 2013

With more than 500,000 subscriptions dropping throughout the pay-television market, Spain’s Telecommunications Market Commission has announced pay-TV operators are now in the brink of collapse.

A report released by the telecommunications regulator outlined the severe drop in subscriptions, though Telefonica’s Movistar TV fared worst of all with more than 150,000 choosing to abandon the service.

Canal Plus and Gol TV took similer subscriptions hits.

Reports did not say whether regulators offered input on what this means for competition within the pay-TV market.
