Spain: Telefonica fined for lack of communications with authorities

Spain’s telco leader Telefonica has been fined more than $680,000 for what local competition authorities called “very serious” breaches of policy.

Reports say telco watchdog CNMC issued the fine after Telefonica failed to notify authorities of its pricing and policy plans for new internet and television packages; such is required by dominant operators.

The company also reportedly blocked access to premium numbers run by a rival telco.

The CNMC released a statement calling the sanctions necessary to preserve competition in the industry.
