Sweden: Authorities sue Swedish Match for abuse of dominance

 |  December 10, 2014

The Swedish Competition Authority has filed a lawsuit against Swedish Match for abusing its market dominance, according to reports.

The regulator filed the case Tuesday in the Stockholm district court. Court documents reveal that the Authority claims Swedish Match has abused its market dominance in implementing a uniform labeling system on its products. The company manufacturers tobacco products including cigars, snuff, snus, matches and lighters.

Reports say standardization labels are used across the tobacco industry promote transparent category presentation; Swedish Match argues that it implemented its labels for the same reason, and has vowed to defend itself vigorously in the lawsuit.
