Taiwan has reportedly welcomed any potential merger between flat-panel manufacturers Innolux Corp and AU Optronics, but according to reports, such a transaction may not be anywhere in the near future.
Still, reports say Innolux, the world’s third-largest flat screen manufacturer, has not ruled out an AU Optronics acquisition. Innolux owner Foxconn Technology has reportedly met with Taiwan’s economics minister Chang Chia-juch to discuss any such buyout, according to local media.
Minister Chia-juch reportedly welcomed the deal but declined to push for it.
The two companies may see success in any merger as the two face financial losses thanks to South Korean rivalries.
AU Optronics declined to comment on the matter.
