Taiwan: Hon Hai Units’ merger plan hits regulation hurdle

The National Communications Commission yesterday turned down the merger application between Asia Pacific Telecom and Ambit Microsystems Corp.

    TThe merger aims to form a strategic alliance with Taiwan Mobile so that Asia Pacific can provide the 4G data service via Taiwan Mobile’s network. This deal, however, is opposed by other telecom operators.

    According to the NCC the merger document fails to explain the scope and methods of the strategic alliance with the telecom operator.

    The NCC asked the applicants to include the relevant information in the follow-up application.
