The UK’s Competition Commission on Thursday said it had provisionally ruled against Akzo Nobel’s move to become the sole owner of Metlac, a maker of metal packaging coatings used in beer and food cans. The watchdog said it was minded to block the deal, subject to consultation. In January, Akzo Nobel said it planned to exercise an option to buy the rest of the business from the Bocchio family for an undisclosed sum. The deal has already been approved in other jurisdictions, including Germany, Austria and Cyprus.
