U.S.: Bureau of Economics, Bureau of Competition clash over Hertz/Dollar Thrifty merger
Sources say a proposed merger between Hertz Global Holdings Inc. and Dollar Thrifty Automotive Group Inc. is meeting resistance from the FTC’s Bureau of Economics, despite the Bureau of Competition’s previous approval of the deal. Hertz has proposed to buy Dollar Thrifty for $2.56 billion. The Bureau of Economics has not released an official statement on the deal, however, though those same sources say Hertz and the FTC have already begun preparing for litigation in case the Bureau of Economics denies permission for the deal to move forward.
