U.S.: Early approval of pharma merger granted by FTC

A merger between Valeant Pharmaceuticals International, Inc. and Medicis Pharmaceutical Corporation has been approved by the FTC; additionally, the FTC has granted Valeant to acquire Medicis early termination of the review period without conditions. The merger is still subject to additional approvals, including from Medicis’s shareholders. Following their approval, the two companies say they plan to complete the deal four days later.
