U.S.: New evidence of bid-rigging conspiracy in ex-Detroit mayor corruption trial

Text messages sent to and from ex-Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick have been released as key evidence into the trial as proof of a bid-rigging conspiracy for personal gain, according to the government. The texts show conversations expressing concern over being left out of city construction deals, including the installation of water mains in the city in 2004 in which Kilpatrick’s contractor friend turned to Kilpatrick to be a part of the deal, ultimately earning $6.9 million.
