UK: Alliance Boots warned of hurdles in pharmacy purchase

The UK’s largest pharmacy, Alliance Boots, is reportedly set to face significant antitrust scrutiny should it proceed with a full acquisition of Co-op Group’s pharmacies.

    Lawyers cautioned that the Competition and Markets Authority would likely require asset sales to approve of the acquisition. Co-op announced earlier this year that it plans to divest hundreds of pharmacies. Several interested bidders, most of which are private equity groups, have already emerged, reports say

    But Alliance Boots has also eyed the assets but experts believe the deal would not likely succeed.
