UK: CC confirms plans for new cement player

 |  January 15, 2014

The UK’s Competition Commission confirmed its plans to introduce a new player into the cement market by forcing divestitures from number-one company Lafarge Tarmac to lessen market entry barriers, say reports.

The plans were revealed in the Commission’s final report of its market inquiry. Additional measures to boost competition in the industry include limiting the information sent between competitors regarding pricing and production levels.

Its findings also found higher prices for cement consumers as a result of the lack of competition between the three main industry players, Lafarge Tarmac, Cemex and Hanson.
