UK: CMA delays Lafarge divestiture appeal until after Holcim deal

 |  September 15, 2014

The UK’s Competition and Markets Authority has rescheduled the hearing of cement giant Lafarge’s appeal of forced divestitures until after the company completes its mega-merger with Holcim, say reports.

The CMA was set to hear the appeal this month from Lafarge after the company was ordered to sell assets to a new market entrant, Hope Construction Materials.

But according to reports, since the divestiture order was made, Lafarge announced its deal with Holcim. The CMA has now decided to wait until after that merger to analyze its effects on the UK cements market; reports say the companies are looking to divest Lafarge’s UK assets as part of the merger to appease competition authorities in several jurisdictions.

The CMA said the appeal will now be heard in April of next year.
