UK: Commission’s extended review allows for casino buyout

The UK’s Competition Commission has announced it will allow the Rank Group to buy Gala Casinos Limited, but with concessions. The Concession’s report announced concerns over five areas of the UK as an effect of the acquisition. The deal was referred to the Commission by the Office of Fair Trading when it was announced Rank would buy 23 casinos and three ‘cold’ licenses from Gala; the Commission found various areas of concern last December. Now, the authority has approved of the merger on the condition that four casinos are not included in the deal, and that Rank must divest one of its cold licenses.
