UK: Global Radio loses fight against forced divestitures

Reports say media conglomerate Global Radio has failed to successfully appeal the Competition Commission’s previous ruling that Global had to divest certain radio stations following its buyout of GMG Radio.

    The acquisition, which was inked for more than $110 million, lead to the Commission’s ruling last May requiring Global Radio to divest the stations in seven geographic areas. The company appealed the decision to the Competition Appeal Tribunal, which deiced last Friday to dismiss the appeal.

    In a statement, Global said the Tribunal’s ruling was “obviously” a disappointment to the firm.
