UK: Ice cream buyout cleared in time for summer

The UK’s Office of Fair Trading officially cleared a buyout of Frederick’s Dairies by R&R Ice Cream for more than $74 million. Reports say the OFT found no cause for competition concern due to the deal, which was first announced last April. Fredericks is licensed to manufacture ice cream products under brands like Cadbury and Britvic. Since first announcing the deal, R&R has itself been bought out by a France-based private equity firm in a deal estimated at more than $1 billion.
