UK: Joint media venture now under eye of OFT

The Office of Fair Trading has announced it will investigate a merger between two regional publishers, the result of which became the Local World conglomerate. Northcliffe Media and Iliffe News and Media were each sold by their aprent companies, DMGT and Yattendon, respectively. They decided to go ahead with the joint enture, but as the OFT has announced on its website, the new entitiy will now be under the authority’s eyes for concerns over whether the deal resulted in a “relevant merger situation under the merger provisions of the Enterprise Act 2002” as well as whether the deal hampers competition.
