UK: Regulator cautiously opens doors to new cement competition

In efforts to heighten competition in the UK’s cement market, reports say the Competition Commission is looking to require sector giant Lafarge Tarmac to divest a cement plant to facilitate the entry of a new player.

    Reports say the Commission has pledged to cautiously allow the new competition and limit the exchange of information between competing cement companies.

    The watchdog has also said that the plan is in its early stages and that further consultation is necessary – including feedback on any competition issues – before the market is stabilized with a new competitor.
