UK: Regulator cautiously opens doors to new cement competition

 |  October 8, 2013

In efforts to heighten competition in the UK’s cement market, reports say the Competition Commission is looking to require sector giant Lafarge Tarmac to divest a cement plant to facilitate the entry of a new player.

The watchdog has also said that the plan is in its early stages and that further consultation is necessary – including feedback on any competition issues – before the market is stabilized with a new competitor.
