UK: Thames water bill hikes unwelcome by Ofwat

 |  November 10, 2013

UK water regulator Ofwat has blocked the Thames Water Utilities’ planned price hikes of 8 percent onto consumer bills, declaring the price hikes reaching up to $46 were excessive.

The hikes, intended to cover the utility’s debts, resulting from a 16-mile tunnel built to update the sewage system.

Instead of the 8 percent bill hike, reports say Ofwat will allow a 4.6 increase in prices starting form April.

Thames Water has the right to appeal the decision, though the utility said it is reviewing the ruling before any decision is made.
