UK: University payment overhauls spark OFT interest

The UK’s Office of Fair Trading announced Tuesday plans to receive information regarding the universities industry following the market’s change in its fees and funding systems.

According to reports, the OFT said the call for information will not lead to regulatory intervention unless necessary.

The regulator said in its announcement that it is “particularly interested” in the level of competition between universities for their students as well as how they set fees.

The call for information has the potential to lead to an official market inquiry, say reports.
