US: $1.2B fertilizer buyout confirmed for Mosaic, CF

The nation’s largest nitrogen producer and fertilizer company CF Industries Holdings will be acquired by rival Mosaic Co., the latter announced Monday, a deal amounting to $1.2 billion.

    According to reports, Mosaic will acquire CF’s phosphate operations in a move that suggests CF will refocus its business on nitrogen fertilizer products, while Mosaic said it is looking to strengthen its phosphate production.

    Mosaic is also an industry heavyweight as the globe’s largest finished phosphate product producer. The company will acquire both a mine and plant, manufacturing plant and ammonia terminal, along with warehouse facilities, reports say.
