US: AB InBev beer battle with DOJ finally reaches end

The US Department of Justice has reportedly reached an agreement with Belgium-based Anheuser-Busch InBev NV after suing the beer giant for its acquisition of Grupo Modelo SAB. According to two sources, a consent decree was filed Friday with a federal judge in earn approval of the agreement, which had an April 23 deadline. Reports say the agreement is based on earlier revisions AB InBev made to the deal last February, as the company decided to divest Modelo’s control of its brands within the US. Additionally, the company would sell one of Modelo’s breweries in Mexico to rival Constellation Brands Inc. The DOJ had originally sued to block the deal earlier this year.
