US: American, US Airways unions meet with DOJ’s Baer

Unions for American Airlines’ parent company AMR Corp and United Airlines met with the Department of Justice’s head of the antitrust division William Baer to discuss American and US Airways’ merger, currently being blocked by the DOJ in court.

Reports say union leaders and Baer met for less than an hour with the unions intending to show their support for the merger, one that would create the world’s largest airline.

The meeting overlapped with public support for the merger as more than 300 employees of the airliners gathered in Washington, DC to show support for the deal.

The DOJ did not immediately comment on the matter.
