US: AMR, US Airways offer latest responses to DOJ merger lawsuit

 |  September 11, 2013

AMR and US Airways have filed their latest responses to the US Department of Justice’s lawsuit against the two for their proposed merger, in which US Airways blamed the DOJ’s complaint, and not the merger itself, for threatening competition in the airline market.

Both companies defended their efforts to merge into the world’s largest airline and blamed the DOJ for lack of understanding of the market; in AMR’s filing, the DOJ is accused of “ignoring the realities of the airline industry in the 21st century.”

The DOJ filed its lawsuit to block the merger last August. US District Judge Colleen Kollar-Kotelly scheduled a trial date for November 25.
