Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher has lured a leading antitrust practitioner, Richard Parker, away from O’Melveny & Myers in the capital.
Parker previously co-chaired O’Melveny’s antitrust and competition practice, which triumphed over the Justice Department in court on behalf of AT&T in the blockbuster Time Warner merger case earlier this week.
“It was the right time to leave because I had an opportunity to do things that I thought was exciting [at Gibson Dunn],” Parker said. “I thought what I set out to do was done, and it was time to do something else.”
Parker helped establish the firm’s strong antitrust reputation in Washington, including as lead trial counsel for US Airways leading to its negotiated settlement with the Justice Department, which had attempted to block the airline’s merger with American Airlines.
In a statement on his departure, an O’Melveny spokesman said, “We wish Rich well. He has been a valued member of the firm since he started at O’Melveny over 45 years ago.”
