US: Aria Health, Thomas Jefferson University have merger deal

 |  January 19, 2016

Aria Health System and Thomas Jefferson University have announced a definitive agreement on a merger announced last fall.

Officials said Tuesday that the two health organizations will now begin the process of seeking regulatory approval in hopes of completing the deal by late spring.

Dr. Stephen Klasko, president and chief executive officer of Thomas Jefferson University and Jefferson Health, said the goal is “reimagining health care delivery, higher education and medical research in the Philadelphia region and beyond.”

Aria says it has three acute-care hospitals and outpatient centers with 485 licensed beds and nearly 4,000 employees. Jefferson Health says it has five hospitals and 16 outpatient and urgent care centers.
